It regulates the amount of nitrogenous material, inorganic salts and water in blood or haemolymph.


Excretory system includes the following:

\implies Malpighian tubules

\implies Fat body

\implies Nephrocytes

\implies Uricose glands


1. \text{\underline{Malpighian\:tubules:}}

\bullet These are attached to the alimentary canal at the junction of midgut and hindgut.

\bullet These are fine, long, unbranched, yellowish and blind tubules lying freely in the haemolymph.


2. \text{\underline{Fat\:body:}}

\bullet It consists of fat cells which lie below the body wall filling most of the space within the body which is not occupied by other internal organs.

\bullet These cells accumulate, produce and store uric acid and urate granules throughout life.


3. \text{\underline{Nephrocytes:}}

\bullet These are large colourless ovoid binucleate cells attached to the dorsal diaphragm in the body cavity.

\bullet They are also found arranged on each side of the heart.


4. \text{\underline{Uricose\:gland:}}

\bullet In male cockroach of some species possess urecose glands on the periphery of mushroom glands.

\bullet The glands synthesise uric acid.
