Earth rotates along its axis in an elliptical path around the sun.

Explanation:

• Earth movement or rotation around the sun is from east to west in a prograde motion and is said to be in a clockwise manner. Earth moves 24 hours with respect to the sun and this created tidal effects and changes of seasons.  

• The origin of this motion can be found in the angular motion of clouds of dust and gases that lead to the formation of the solar system. Earth rotational motion is called a sidereal rotational motion.

• The tectonic plates on the earth are also in motion and can lead to the occurrence of an earthquake which is a sudden movement of the earth's crust along the fault line.
