All biological reactions are catalyze d by special catalyst s called enzymes.
Chemically all enzymes are Globular proteins(which are complex nitrogen compounds) with high molecular mass ranging from15,000-1000,000gmol-1 and form colloidal solution in water.
Every biological reaction requires a different kind of enzyme. Since there is a large number of such biological reactions, therefore, there is large number of enzymes functioning in a living system.
Enzymes are vital for biological processes. Without them, the life processes would be very slow and sluggish.
The most accepted mechanism of enzyme catalyzed reaction is known as Lock and Key mechanism. What they do is speed up the chemical reaction by decreasing the activation energy.
Hope this will help u.
