This story is a clear depiction of a mentally retarded man and his interaction and association to the normal people in the world.
Combination of tragedy and comedy.
He was sincere to the family he was brought up by whom he served and in return got shelter and protection from them.
He was treated as an instrument for fun by his neighbours, who teased him about "when will his wife come" .
He becomes the victim of the society once again, when a some film actors comes to stay near Desi's house. And some people from his neighbourhood tell him that the film actress Bamini Bai came to marry him. He followed her and expressed his feelings for her but was quite insulted and taken to the police station.
This changed his life and his opinion about the world and its people. He remained quite and stepped out of the house no more. He was soon shifted to the mental hospital where he longed for his wife to return.
As he was infused with the idea to marry, have a wife and a family he always waited for this to happen. So his hope was the motto that can be learned from the story.
Although he lost his sense, he still had a positive hope for the one thing he wanted the most in his life.
