Adolf Hitler,an Austrian by birth , had fought in the German army during the First World War and had attained the rank of a corporal. In 1919, he joined a small political group called 'The German Workers Party' which was based in Munich. Soon he became its leader and changed its name to the National Socialist Party or the Nazi Party.
