The solar cell is the most sustainable source of energy and is also renewable in nature. The energy that we obtain till date is basically from non-renewable source, especially the fossil fuel.
Explanation:
The solar cell, also known as Photovoltaic cell is used to convert the light energy from the sun into electrical energy, which is a physicochemical phenomenon.
The use of solar cells is encouraged due to the following reasons:
- There is scarcity of non-renewable sources of energy like coal, fossil fuel that are basic sources of electrical energy. So, the solar cell can be an alternative to this source.
- Although the initial installation cost is high but in the long run minimizes the cost , as it is sustainable and also easily maintainable.
- Solar cells have a wide range of applications ranging from usage in calculators to use in homes and for commercial electricity supply as well.
- Solar cells reduces environmental pollution. The non-renewable sources on burning produces lot of smoke and soot containing sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide in the environment.
- Solar cells can also store the electrical energy already produced in the solar batteries which cannot be done by the conventional sources.
