the poem calls upon flexibilty and adaptation which is the nature of life.adaptation-to be better equipped than the other helps the organism to survive,in this case the mighty  old oak tree.tthe wind which blew day and night shattered the other,i trees who were rigid and defied the wind ultimately leading to its downfall.

the tree tells this to the poet who,recognizing endurance,found hism own power as well.
