given that 5x-9=1/y equation 1 x+1/y=3 eqaution2

5x=1/y+9

5x=1+9y/y

x=1+9y/5y

substitute the value of x in the second equation

x+1/y=3

1+9y/5y+1/y=3

1+9y+5y/5y=3

1+14y=15y

15y-14y=1

y=1

substituting the value of y=1

x+1=3

x=2
