Now, what about joining General Washington's army? Draft a formal cover letter applying for a job in his regiment. You can be creative with the return address and employer's address. Consider what kind of skills a good soldier for Washington would need. Remember, this was in the late 1800s. Remember to use an active voice in your sentences. Answer:

Dear Sgt. Jimenez,

I want to express an interest in becoming an army solider. This is something I have been thinking about since entering high school. My parents agreed that it was a great opportunity but requested I get my high school diploma first. Well I will be graduating this June and am ready to become a member of the United States Army.

I know it is a challenging career choice but one I am ready to make. I have always been hard working and motivated capable of following orders and tasks while looking for ways to exceed beyond anyone’s expectations. I understand that as a representative of the armed forces and an army solider I will have a responsibility to maintain a certain appearance and carry myself in a way that represents the best this country has to offer.I can tell you I work well with teams. I am a member of the wrestling team at school and spent summers as a team leader at a local McDonald’s.

I know I will do well with others as an army solider. Please send me information about the Army or feel free to give me a call so that we can meet and discuss the process.

Best Regards,

Taylor Romero
