During my many hours spent on the trails I have had the following aromas find their way into my nostrils:
Pine and Pine Resins: Prickly needles of a tall conifer tree and little odorous cones clinging on for dear life bear the sharp fragrance of the woodlands. The atmosphere comes alive with a fresh, stark, pungent stink unmistakably reminiscent of winter Holidays pasts. Droplets oozing and dripping taffy-like bring to mind cough drops healing the throat and other ointments that sooth and cool. Unlike the pine needles sap is a heavier darker scent, carrying the notes of the grand wood it comes from in its sticky hold.
