The impact of e-waste can cause several aspects of the environment as well as its direct impact on people.

E-waste effect on air: Probably the most common influence is via hydrocarbons released into the air when e-waste is warmed up. This atmospheric damage is one of the largest environmental impacts.

E-waste effect on soil: This holds a great risk to humans and animals. As the chemicals sink into the soil from toxic metals they pollute the soil and as most of these are not biodegradable, it continues to provide risks of exposure to land and sea animals.

E-waste effect on water: Electronics that contain batteries, lead, mercury, lithium, and barium pollute our water. It’s estimated that every year 80 billion Olympic sized swimming pools worth of water are impacted by this (source)

Some less spoken of impacts is that of the deforestation that occurs mining for new metals that we simply could recycle from our e-waste. The African low land gorilla is at risk in the Congo due to it being the main source of coltan used in our mobile phones (which there are more of than people on the planet now)

People can suffer from neurological, bone and general organ damage from the poisoning. I suggest looking at the stories from Guiyu, a town in China
