Rural Employment Generation Programme.

(i) The aim of the programme is to create self-employment

opportunities in rural areas and small towns.

(ii) A target for creating 25 lakhs new jobs has been set for the programme under the Tenth Five Year plan.

NREGA stands for "National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005" it was implemented by the central government.

It was passed for promoting rural employment for people who are living below poverty line and are able to, and willing to work have been guarantee 100 days employment in a year by the government.

If government fails to fulfil or provide employment to those people who registered there name under this Act will be given unemployment allowance.

It is applicable for only 200 districts, now it is extended to 330 districts of india
