Answer:
Hello :D
India made significant contribution to metallurgy, however many historians consider those achievements has accidental, some attribute them to iron ores of India.
Phospate and Gamma iron structure are responsible for corrosion resistance, and whole mass is put together by forged welding. Though environmental corrosion is also a big issue even in 21st century, I don't see what we learnt from Iron Pillar.
Next famous achievement is damuscus steel, nobody really understands how these were made, the process was kept secretive and dead somewhere in the timeline, these swords are famous for their strength and corrosion resistance. I believe in the process of understanding damuscus steel, material scientists saw a new world.
However mass production of aluminum by Hall's process is great achievement of mankind, which did not happen in India, and even today India is not in the centre of materials research. We can no more brag about previous achievements, world is very much different today compared Adi Sankara's era, we need to do some thing relevant in ongoing materials revolution.
