Answer:

The common difference is -2, so the formula for the nth term is 12-2(n-1). This can be written 12-2n+2=14-2n, so that when n=1, the 1st term is 14-2=12. The 5th term is 14-10=4; the 6th is 14-12=2.

GIVEN,

sequence 12,10,8,6,4

TO FIND,

nth term for the sequence.

SOLUTION,

in the given sequence we find 'd'= common difference

                                                      = a₂-a₁

                                                      = 10-12

                                                   d =-2

as we know the formula for nth term

aₙ= a₁+ (n-1)d

substituting the values in the formula,we get,

aₙ= 12-2(n-1)

aₙ= 12-2n+2

aₙ= 14-2n

hence now we can find the nth term,

suppose n=1

we get,

aₙ= 14-2*1

aₙ= 14-2

aₙ=12

∴the first term is 12 as we are given.

HENCE THE Nth TERM IS GIVEN BY Aₙ= 14-2N.
