The nucleus is called the "brain" of the cellbecause it holds the information needed to conduct most of the cell's functions. Other molecules make proteins from that information on a regular basis - each moment of our lives.

In a total lifecycle of a biological cell,the nucleus plays a very vital role through various biological aspects.

This nucleus also controls the various biological activities inside a cell throughout the whole lifecycle.

The cell division is also dependent on the nucleus and it's internal components. (DNA & RNA etc.)

For these major reasons,we call the nucleus as the director of the cell.
