Nucleus is referred as the “control centre” due to the presence of DNA. This is

because; DNA carries the genetic information that controls all the cellular functions.

DNA is highly packed into a compact structure called Chromosomes. The number of

chromosomes differs in all the organisms. But in a cell, some organelles also contain

their own DNA which is no way connected with the nuclear DNA.

(i) In which form is the DNA present in a cell when the cell is not diving?

(ii) Name the two organelles in a plant cell that contain their own DNA and

ribosomes.

(iii) How many chromosomes are present in a human cell?

(iv) Write the full form of DNA

Hii

I)DNA is present in both dividing & non-dividing cells. In non- dividing cells, the chromatin threads contain DNA which later condense to form chromosomes during dividing phase

ii)Both mitochondria and chloroplasts contain their own DNA and ribosomes.

iii)46 chromosomes

Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes, for a total of 46 chromosomes.

iv)Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) DNA is the chemical name for the molecule that carries genetic instructions in all living things.
