let the number be xy where x is in ten's place and y is in unit's place so it can also be expressed as 10x+y . it is given that x+y=5...(1) When x is increased by 1, it is given that it is equal to 1/8 of the number => (x+1)= 1/8(10x+y) => 8(x+1) =10x+y => 8x+8 =10x+y
=> 2x+y=8 ...(2) Subtract equation (1) from (2) , we get 2x+y-(x+y) =8-5=> x= 3 . So substitute x=3 in equation (1) ,we get 3+y=5=> y=2 . So the number is 3(10)+2=32 .Hope it helps you...
