EcoR1 is a restriction endonuclease which is used to cleave DNA. The recognition sequence for the enzyme is GAATTC.

G and C are the nucleotide whose phosphodiester bonds break. Hence, AATT are the nucleotides which are left as sticky ends.

Hydrogen bonds between these nucleotides and their complementary nucleotides will be disrupted.

Since A and T bind with each other using two hydrogen bonds, hence, 2*4 = 8 bonds will be disturbed.
