In an intrinsic semiconductor, the number of electrons generated in the conduction band is equal to the number of holes generated in the valence band. Hence the electron-carrier concentration is equal to the hole-carrier concentration. Nc is the effective density of states in conduction band.Electrons and Holes. This refers to the “free”electrons and holes. They carry charges (electron -ve and hole +ve), and are responsible for electrical current in the semiconductor.
