The number of p-pi d-pi double bonds in SO2Cl2 is equal to two.

  • SO2Cl2 has a tetrahedral structure with two oxygen atoms double bonded to the central sulfur atom and the two chlorine atoms single bonded to sulfur atom.
  • Since SO2Cl2 is tetrahedral, the hybridization of the central sulfur atom is sp3.
  • Hence, all the three p-orbitals of sulfur are used in sigma bonding. So, both the pi bond formed by it will be of p-pi d-pi in nature.
