Hi , there !!!

here is your answer :-

Chlorine have 17 Electrons in it having negative charge , means one Electron is adding so Total Electron will be 18

so electronic configuration is 2 ,8 ,8

hence , the valance Electron will be 8

hope it helps you !!

thanks !!

8

answer : option (b) 8

explanation : atomic number of chlorine, Cl = 17

for an element,

atomic number = proton number = electron number.

so, number of electrons in Cl ion = 17

⇒number of electrons in Cl– ion = 17 + 1 = 18

now electronic configuration of Cl– ion :

The maximum number of electrons accommodated in the K-shell or 1st orbit will be 2. the second orbit will fill up to 8 electrons. finally, the third orbit will accommodate rest of electron left.i.e., 18 - (2 + 8) = 8

so, electronic configuration of Cl– ion = 2, 8, 8

so, number of Valence electrons in Cl– ion = number of electrons in outermost orbit (i.e., 3rd orbit) = 8

hence, option (b) is correct choice.
