Answer:

(i) Let the number be x.

Double of x is 45 greater than its half (x/2).

We can frame the equation as

2 \times x = 45+ \frac{x}{2}

Transpose variables to one side, and constants to another side.

2x-\frac{x}{2} =45

\frac{3x}{2} = 45

Transpose \frac{3}{2} to the RHS.

x=\frac{2 \times 45}{3}

x=30

(ii) the second question is incomplete.

The question is: 5 is subtracted from 5 times the number, the result is 4 more than twice the number.

Let the number be x.

When 5 is subtracted from 5 times x, the result is 4 more than twice x.

We can frame the equation as:

5x-5=4+2x

Transpose variables to one side, constants to another side.

5x-2x=4+5

3x=9

x=9÷3

x=3
