Let Gita's marks be x

and Sita's marks be y

According to first condition,

Gita's marks= 2+ (2/5 of Sita's marks)

x= 2+ 2/5y

multiply overall by 5 ...

5x=10+2y

Rearranging..

5x-2y=10 .....(1)

According to second condition,

Gita's score - 4 = 3/8 of Sita's marks

x-4= 3/8 y

multiply overall by 8...

8x-32= 3y

Rearranging...

8x-3y= 32.......(2)

solving simultaneously (1)& (2)..

multiply equation (1) by 3 and equation (2) by 2..we get

15x-6y=30

16x-6y=64

- + -

------------------

-x = -34

x=34

substitute this value in (1)

5x-2y=10

5(34) -2y= 10

170 -2y= 10

-2y= 10-170

-2y= -160

y= 160/2

y= 80

hence ...Gita's marks is 34

and Sita's marks is 80 .
