let the denominator be x

According to the question,

numerator= (x-5)

Now, 2 is subtracted from the num and 2 is added to the denominator

[(x-5)-2] / (x+2) = 2/5

(x-7) / (x+2) = 2/5

Cross multiply.

5×(x-7) = 2×(x+2)

5x- 35 = 2x+ 4

3x = 39

x = 13

Since we assumed x as the denominator and (x-5) as the numerator, the Original fraction is 8/13

Step-by-step explanation:

let the denominator be x.

According to question, x-5/x

then, (x-5-2)/(x+2)=2/5

x-7/x+2=2/5

5(x-7)=2(x+2)

5x-35=2x+4

3x=39

x=13
