Solution :-

Let the denominator be x.

Numerator = x - 5

According to the question,

=> (x - 5 + 1)/(x + 1) = 3/8

=> 8(x - 4) = 3(x + 1)

=> 8x - 32 = 3x + 3

=> 8x - 3x = 3 + 32

=> 5x = 35

=> x = 35/5 = 7

Numerator = x - 5 = 7 - 5 = 2

Hence,

The fraction = 2/7

Let denominator = x.

And numerator = x - 5

According to question;

(x - 5 + 1)/(x + 1) = 3/8

8(x - 4) = 3(x + 1)

8x - 32 = 3x + 3

8x - 3x = 3 + 32

5x = 35

x = 7

Numerator = x - 5 = 7 - 5 = 2

So,

The fraction = N/D

= 2/7
