Solution

Given :-

  • Numerator of a fraction is 5 more than its denominator
  • If 4 is added to numerator and denominator, the fraction obtained is 6/5.

Find :-

  • These fraction

Explanation

Let,

  • Numerator be = x
  • Denominator be = y

According to question,

Case 1.

==> x = 5 + y

==> x - y = 5______________(1)

Case 2.

==> (x + 4)/(y + 4) = 6/5

==> 5 × (x + 4) = 6 × (y + 4)

==> 5x - 6y = 24 - 20

==> 5x - 6y = 4_______________(2)

Multiply by 5 in equ(1)

==> 5x - 5y = 25____________(3)

Sub. equ(2) & (3)

==> -6y + 5y = 4 - 25

==> -y = -21

==> y = 21

keep in equ(2)

==> 5x - 6×21 = 4

==> 5x = 4 + 126

==> x = 130/5

==> x = 26

Hence

  • Numerator be (x ) = 26
  • Denominator be (y) = 21

Then, required fraction will be

  • x/y = 26/21
