1 How much energy is consumed when a current of 5 amphere flows through the filaments of a heater having resistance of 10 ohms for two hours? Express it in joules.

2 An electric bulb is rated at 220 V ,100W .What is its resistance.

3 An electric bulb is connected to 220V power supply lines.If the bulb draws a current of 0.5 A .Calculate the power of the bulb.

Answer:

1.)

Current = I = 5 Amperes

Resistance of the resistor = R = 10 ohms

Time = t = 2 hours = 7200

Energy produced = I²RT

Energy produced = 5²×10×7200

Energy produced = 250×7200

Energy produced = 18,00,000 joules

The energy produced is equal to 1,80,000 joules

2.)

Potential difference = v = 220 volts

Power rating = P = 100 watts

P=v²/r

100=220²/r

100r = 48,400

r = 48,400/100

Resistance = 484 ohms

The resistance is equal to 484 ohms

3.)

Current = I = 0.5 Amperes

Potential difference = v = 220 volts

Power = v×i

Power = 220×0.5

Power = 110 watts
