Numerical : 2 litres of a gas is enclosed in a vessel at a pressure of 760 mm Hg. If tempreture remains constant, calculate pressure when volume changes to 4 dm cube .

According to boyle's law , at constant temprature

P1*V1 =P2*V2

where,

P1 = initial pressure

P2= final pressure

V1= initial volume

V2= final volume

here,

1litre= 1000 cm cube

so,2litre=2000 cm cube

and, 1dm cube = 1000 cm cube

so, 4dm cube = 4000 cm cube

now,

P1*V1=P2*V2

760mm of hg * 2000 cm cube=P2*4000 cm cube

760*2000/4000 mm of hg=P2

380mm of hg= P2

hence ,the pressure reduced to 380mm of hg when volume changes to 4 dm cube at constant temprature.
