The process of taking food into the body and it's utilization is called Nutrition. There are two types of nutritions-Autotrophic mode of nutrition and Heterotrophic mode of nutrition. Let's discuss in detail about both.

Autotrophic mode of nutrition.- The organisms who can synthesize their own food by the process of Photosynthesis have the Autotrophic mode of nutrition.Example- Green plants and some kind of bacteria.As green plants contain chlorophyll ( green pigment) they are able to make their own food. But as animals and we humans don't have the green pigment in us we cannot. The organisms who have the Autotrophic mode of Nutrition are called Autotrophs.

Heterotrophic mode of nutrition- The organisms who cannot synthesize their own food by the process of photosynthesis and depend on other organisms for their nutrition  have the heterotrophic mode of nutrition.Example- Human beings, Animals, Non green plants etc.The organisms who have heterotrophic nutrition don't have chlorophyll in them so they can't make their food.They are called Heterotrophs. 
Remember that insectivorous plants have both heterotrophic and autotrophic mode of nutrition.
