Kabir grew up in a Muslim family. He learned Sanskrit and Persian. He
wrote many songs and poems. His songs and poems tell us that God is
every where. He taught everyone to love God. He always said "Kabir is
the child of Allah and Ram. But this made both the Muslims and the
Hindus angry. They took him to the Emperor. The Emperor also got
angry
Throw this man into the river," he ordered his soldiers. So the soldiers
threw Kabir into the river. But he did not die. The second time they tried
to kill him, they put him in a hut and set fire to it. The hut burnt down but
Kabir did not die. Finally, they threw him in front of an elephant. But the
elephant ran away from there without hurting him.
When Kabir died, the Muslims wanted to bury his body but the Hindus
wanted to burn it. There was a big dispute over this. Then they heard a
voice from the sky, "Take the cover off the body." They took the cover off
and found only some flowers under it, not Kabir's body!
