When nitro benzene is heated with potassium hydroxide, a mixture of ortho and para nitro phenol is obtained.

In this reaction hydrogen of benzene ring is substituted by hydroxyl group. Hydroxide ion acts as a nucleophile. Hence, this reaction is an aromatic nucleophilic substitution reaction.
