Correct Question:-

0.5 gm of nitrogen gas is contained in sealed vessel of 435 ml capacity at 25°c . Calculate the pressure exerted by the gas (R = 0.0821 atm lit k⁻¹ mol⁻¹)

Answer:-

Given:

Mass of nitrogen (m) = 0.5 gms.

Volume of gas (V) = 435 ml = 435/1000 L

[ Since, 1 ml = 1/1000 L ]

Temperature (T) = 25° C = 25 + 273° K = 298° K

R = 0.0821 atm lit k⁻¹ mol⁻¹

Using Ideal gas equation,

i.e.,

PV = nRT

(n is the number of moles)

We know,

n = mass of atom (m) /Molar mass (M)

  • Molar mass of N = 14 g/mol

⟶ n = 0.5 / 14

⟶ n = 0.035 mol

So,

⟶ P * (435/1000) = (0.035) * (0.0821) * (289)

⟶ P = (0.035) * (0.0821) * (289) * (1000) / 435

⟶ P = 1.9 atm ≈ 2 atm

The pressure of nitrogen is 2 atm(Approx.)
