Hope's experiment

Aim:

The goal of this experiment is used to demonstrate that between the temperature 0°C and 4°C, the density of water increases with rise in temperature

Procedure:

1)At least one hour before the experiment fill a beaker with water and cover it by ice cubes. Do the same with an empty Hope device.

2) Just before the experiment, prepare a cooling mixture by using crushed or melted ice and common salt. It is appropriate to have a thermometer to control the temperature of the mixture.

3)After cooling bring the Hope's device out from the fridge and isolate it from the pad with a styrofoam plate and insert thermometers into the both holes.

4) Pour the previously cooled water into the inner cylinder and the thermometer will show the same temperature.

5) Fill the reservoir with the cool mixture.

Observation:

The change in the temperatures are measured by both the thermometers.
