Mangroves

  • Mangroves forests have the rare types of biodiversity. They grow in Damp Soils. These soils are a challenge for the plants that grow there. The soil is highly saturated with water which lacks oxygen. The plants need to find a way to absorb oxygen from the atmosphere. That's why they grow roots above the soil for oxygen absorption from the atmosphere. These roots look like snake heads coming out from the soil. The roots of these mangrove plants are modified to grow in damp and swamp soils. Ex :- Coringa mangrove forest.
  • Mangroves are the habitats of many organisms. They provide shelter for many fishes, crabs, prawns, snails, snakes, crocodiles, turtles, cranes, kingfishers, monkeys etc
  • The organisms that stuck in the damp soil ,die and provide nutrition to the plants and number of organisms living in it.

Two types of components are there in the biodiversity :-

  1. Biotic components
  2. Abiotic components

The Biotic components that live there are :-

Producers :-

Mangroves,Algae etc

Consumers :-

Fishes,crabs,snails,prawns,crocs,snakes,monkeys, birds etc.

Decomposera :-

Bacteria,Fungi etc

The Abiotic components that are there are :-

Water, sunlight, air, soil, dead organisms, dead plants and their parts etc
