I don't think you will obtain Na2O by decomposition of the carbonate. It will first melt, and then only decompose slightly at temperatures much higher than the melting point. It is not the same as e.g. CaCO3 which decomposes much more easily.
The nitrate decomposes more easily, but first forms nitrite plus O2. NaNO3 <--> NaNO2 + (1/2)O2. After that it will decompose further to form Na2O, however, you may require T above the melting point of Na2O.
So I'd certainly say trying the nitrate is a better bet, but not assured to work.
On the other hand, you can buy sodium oxide, but it may contain NaO as well as Na2O:
