The Buddhist records acknowledge him for the spread of Buddhism in India and on board.
As a ruler, Ashoka did not support Buddhism at the costs of different religions.
As indicated by Ramesh Chandra Majumdar, Dhamma was not the strategy of an apostate but rather an arrangement of convictions made out of various religious beliefs.
