Observe the diagram and answer the following questions:
(i) What will be the colour of the flame produced when
sodium chloride ,potassium iodide and barium chloride are
heated in a spatula.
(ii) What is the physical state of these salts ?
(iii) What will you observe when an electric circuit containing
a battery, electrodes ,a bulb ,wires and a switch is made
and electricty is passed through a solution of any one salt

Answer:

(i) Barium Chloride:- Light green

Sodium Chloride:- Orange

Potassium Iodide:- Red-violet

(ii) Salts are ionic in nature due to the presence of ions. They are brittle, hard and crystalline solids. Salt is white, odorless and it has a salty taste.

(iii)When you put salt in water, the water molecules pull the sodium and chlorine ions apart so they are floating freely. These ions are what carry electricity through water with an electric current. In short, salt water can help to produce electricity.
