a) As,shown in the figure,there is a metallic wire over a ice slab.
b)The weights are tied at both the ends of the wire.You will observe that the wire passes through the ice slab in course of time without breaking the slab.
c)This phenomenon is an example of regelation.
d)Due to weights tied,the wire exerts pressure on the surface of the slab.the melting point of ice get decrease due to pressure and ice melts to form water,in the region where pressure is exerted.
e)Wire sinks in water,as water comes up ,there is no pressure on it and it again turns to ice .This phenomenon keeps on it and again and again turns to ice .
f)This phenomenon keeps on continuing till the wire passes through the ice slab.
g)This phenomenon is called regelation
