"a. Lamp post: Lamp posts were created at regular intervals for providing street lighting during the Indus civilisation. This is also a model for the present day street lighting that has changed only with technology.

b. Burnt bricks: Mud and mortar were aptly mixed to make burnt bricks that were widely used for the construction of houses and buildings. In the present days, although newer materials like concrete blocks are used, burnt bricks are also still used for the construction of houses and buildings.

c. Underground drainage system: Indus valley civilisation had remarkable drainage system with each house having its own bathroom that was connected to sewers and then to soak-pits on the street through channels. Nowadays, the soak-pits are converted as manholes and all the houses and buildings are connected similarly through drainage channels.

d. Weights and measurement: A calibrated weighing system using the binary system was in practice during the Indus civilisation. Weights were cubical similar to the ones used now. The unit weight was only in grams then, but now we follow the kilograms system. They also used a bronze bar with copper pans for weighing.

e. Dockyard: The Indus Valley dockyard in Lothal is proof of maritime trading and shipping then. This huge dockyard is an architectural marvel and one of the world’s oldest dockyards. It had shipping berths and ships. The current dockyards are mechanized ports that play a vital role in India’s shipping industry.
