Given that,

Resistance, R_1=2\ \Omega

Resistance, R_2=4\ \Omega

Resistance, R_3=4\ \Omega

Resistance, R_4=5\ \Omega

Voltage of the battery, V = 6 volts

To find,

The total resistance in the circuit and the total current flowing in the circuit.

Solution,

From the attached figure, it is clear that all R₁, R₂ and R₃resistances are connected in parallel. The equivalent resistance for parallel combination is given by :

\dfrac{1}{R_P}=\dfrac{1}{R_1}+\dfrac{1}{R_2}+\dfrac{1}{R_3}\\\\\dfrac{1}{R_P}=\dfrac{1}{2}+\dfrac{1}{4}+\dfrac{1}{4}\\\\R_p=1\ \Omega

Now 1 ohms and 5 ohms are connected in series. So,

R = 1 Ω + 5 Ω

R = 6 ohms

Let I is the current. Using Ohm's law :

V = IR

I=\dfrac{V}{R}\\\\I=\dfrac{6}{6}\\\\I=1\ A

So, the total resistance in the circuit is 6 ohms and total current of 1 A is flowing.
