Observe the reaction between zinc and dilute hydrochloric acid and answer the following.

ii. Write the characteristic evidence for the above reaction.

v. Which gas is evolved here? Explain the purpose of bringing burning candle here.

Answer:

i) the products of the reaction are Zinc Sulphate and Hydeogen .

ii) if you bring a candle near the apparatus it burns with a pop sound . this indicates of hydrogen and hence is a characteristic evidence of the reaction.

iii) the other characteristics of the reaction are

  1. rise in temperature ( exothermic reaction )
  2. reduction reaction

iv) Zn + H2SO4 --------> ZnSO4 + H2

v) hydrogen gas is evolved here. the candle burns with a pop sound when comes in touch with hydrogen .
