- MSL stands for mean sea level. It is a universal measurement of the average height of the sea during high and low tides. Before partition, for reference, the mean sea level in India was in Karachi. After the partition, for reference, the mean sea level in India is in Mumbai which is 160m (525 ft). The highest elevation was in Kanchenjunga at 8586m and the lowest elevation was in Kuttanad at 2m.
