To understand this you should know the law of energy flow which states that every trophic level passes only 10 percent of it's energy to it's next trophic level.

Then according to this law if insect larvae have 10 joule energy then it will pass 1 joule to minnow (little fish) and further kingfisher will got 0.1 joule energy.
