Poverty
Poverty is one of the most pressing issues at hand today. In fact this issue is not a relatively new one and has existed from the beginning of civilization. There has always been a scarcity of resources and this has bifurcated the society into two divisions, namely the haves and the have-nots. The have-nots are the ones who are unable to obtain the resources they need in required quantity and are called as the 'poor' and their predicament is called as poverty.Poverty is a major issue in India and as of the 2011 reports, a stunning 21 percentile of the population was living in dire poverty or were below the poverty line.
Poverty arises due to a myriad of reasons such as overpopulation, dearth of jobs, lack of technical skills, illiteracy, unemployment, physical or mental disability, natural disasters, corruption, inflation, shortage of resources, job layoffs etc. All people are not fortunate enough to be born with a silver spoon. Many live in abject poverty and are unable to make both ends meet and they struggle to survive.We are now in 2019 and have come a long way from 2011, but the problem of poverty has still not been solved.
Whilst poverty is not impossible to handle, it is still a difficult issue. The various ruling parties until now all tried to solve the issue of poverty, but were not completely successful. In order to tackle poverty, it is not only the government which must put more focus and funds to use, but also the people who must strive to improve their skills and education to alleviate themselves from poverty. In fact the issue of poverty is closely tied with the issue of illiteracy. Most people don't possess the qualifications to work even if the job is right before them.The government must work much more in this regard and take more measures to increase the literacy percentile and also increase the skills of the people. The ruling party must also function with utmost sincerity and work for the welfare of the nation and shove aside their personal interests.Also the victims of natural disasters and the disabled or handicapped people should be given a chance to work and improve their lifestyle. Special centres should be set up to take care of the needs of those who are mentally affected or disabled.
All said and done, poverty is relatively a difficult hurdle required to be overcome by India; but with the determination of the populace and the sincerity of the government, it is not an impossible thing at all. The main point which must be understood in this regard is the fact that the privileged must put aside their selfishness and work to elevate the suffering of others and the hapless must determinedly work to improve his lifestyle. When this happens, poverty is as good as a thing of the past.
