Given info : Observed mass of ¹⁶O is 15.9956112 amu. the masses of each neutron and proton are 1.008665 amu and 1.007825 amu respectively.

To find : The binding energy of oxygen is...

solution : in the nucleus of an oxygen atom, 8 protons and 8 neutrons.

so, mass of an oxygen atom = 8 × mass of proton + 8 × mass of neutron

= 8 × 1.007825 amu + 8 × 1.008665 amu

= 16.13192 amu

now ∆m = calculated mass - observed mass

= 16.13192 - 15.9956112

= 0.1363088 amu

we know, 1 amu = 93.5 MeV

= 0.1363088 amu × 93.5 MeV/amu

= 12.7448728 ≈ 12.75 MeV

Therefore the binding energy of oxygen atom is 12.75 MeV
