Double Displacement Reaction: the reaction in which where two components react, and the positive ions (cation) and negative ions (anion) of the two reactants switch places, formation of two new components and products.

Double Displacement Reaction is also know as double replacement.

Example -- Na2SO4 + BaCl2 --- BaSO4 + 2NaCl

BaSO4 is white precipitate.
In this reaction a substance, which is

insoluble in water is formed. This insoluble substance it's is know as precipitate.

A reaction that produces a precipitate it is know as precipitate reaction.
