Coulombic force acting on a test charge F = \frac{kQq}{r^{2} } where k = 1/4πϵ₀

Potential energy of the two charges U =  - \int\limits {F} \, dr

∴ U = - \int\limits {\frac{kQq}{r^{2} } } \, dr

U = −kQq * - \int\limits {\frac{1}{r^{2} } } \, dr

U = −kQq * \frac{-1}{r}

U = \frac{-kQq}{r}
