Question :- Obtain the equation of the line passing through (-1,7) and perpendicular to the line y + 2=0 .

Solution :-

Given that, the line is perpendicular to the line y + 2=0 .

So,

y + 2 = 0

→ y = (-2)

Comparing with , y = mx + c , we get,

→ slope of line = m = 0 .

Now, we know that, when lines are Perpendicular , than,

→ m1 * m2 = (-1)

Putting slope of given line, m1 = 0, we get,

→ 0 * m2 = (-1)

→ m2 = (-1)/0

→ m2 = undefined.

Therefore, The perpendicular line is vertical and only pass through x - axis point .

Hence,

→ x = (-1)

→ x + 1 = 0 . (Ans.)

The Equation of the line will be x + 1 = 0 .
