h(ν - ν₀) = 1/2 m v²

Explanation:

By Einstein's  photo emission equation

h(ν - ν₀) = 1/2 m v²

When a photon of energy hν is made to strike the metal plate , the free electron of metal is emitted out with kinetic energy .

The binding energy of electron with metal is hν₀ .

It is the threshold energy of the metal .

If the energy of photon is greater than this threshold energy , the electron is emitted with a kinetic energy  1/2 m v² .

Here ν is the frequency of photon and ν₀ is the threshold frequency
