Let V be the volume of a body of density Ps

Let the body be floating with it's volume v immersed inside a liquid of density PL

Then, weight of the body ,

W = Volume of body x density of body x g

or, W = V Ps g

Weight of liquid displaced by body or upthrust,

FB = Volume of displaced liquid x density of liquid x g

or, FB = v PL g

For floatation, W = FB

i.e , V Ps g = V PL g

or, v/V = Ps/PL

Thus,

Volume of immersed part of / Total volume of body.
